A promise of shared future
For this reason, Women@Sky has been organizing for years many activities involving employees that revolve around five main areas: empowerment and personal growth, STEM & female talents, health and well-being, safety and violence prevention, and finally inclusive culture and men-women alliance.
Ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Women@Sky organized the event When Trust is Betrayed: Understanding and Preventing Violence.
An intense and deeply reflective appointment, dedicated to a topic that involves everyone. Through the screening and storytelling of the docuseries Every 72 Hours – Stories of Women Killed by Men, which gives voice to broken lives and stories that cannot be ignored, the event offered a space for discussion and analysis on the urgency of acting against a still too widespread phenomenon. Moderated by Monica Peruzzi of Sky TG24, the event featured the participation of Daniela Collu (Stazzitta), author and presenter of the series, forensic lawyer and victimologist Alessia Sorgato, and head of the Sky Investigation team, Antonietta Ragozzino.
There are many initiatives that Sky organizes every year on this occasion: from the installation of red benches at company offices, symbolizing the rejection of violence against women, to meetings dedicated to employees on the topic of verbal micro-aggressions, a phenomenon still little addressed but far too frequent in working life. Another important opportunity to strongly reaffirm that combating violence against women is a collective responsibility requiring the commitment of everyone to build a society capable of listening to, protecting, and respecting every woman. And it is precisely this sense of community that gave rise, on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, to the campaign Accelerate Action – Allies for Change. According to World Economic Forum data, at the current pace, it will take until 2158 – about five generations from today – to achieve full gender equality. Therefore, emphasizing the need to accelerate action means recognizing the importance and urgency of adopting rapid and decisive measures to achieve gender equality. It means increasing momentum and determination in tackling systemic barriers and biases that women face, both personally and professionally. Because change cannot and must not be only a women’s battle.
On this occasion, colleagues contributed by highlighting systemic barriers observed in their work and social contexts and proposing concrete action plans to overcome them. Sky can count on conscious allies among its people who personally recognize their role in building a fairer environment and who choose every day to speak, listen, and act. The panel focused on how men can positively influence company policies and practices, actively contributing to building a fairer environment.
Gender equality creates value for everyone, not just women. A fair and inclusive environment fosters creativity, improves team effectiveness, and strengthens business performance.
In a broader sense, Sky cares for today’s and tomorrow’s women also through many other initiatives. With the Deploy Your Talent project, since 2023, Sky female colleagues meet students to encourage them to choose study paths in STEM fields, breaking down gender stereotypes. Many Sky colleagues also participated in the Pittarosso Pink Parade to support the scientific research of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation ETS and raise women’s awareness of the importance of prevention. A color analysis event was also organized, involving about one hundred participants, to promote self-awareness and personal enhancement, supporting female growth and empowerment. At Sky, well-being is not an abstract concept but a concrete commitment, translated into services and initiatives that have positive effects on people’s lives. From this care comes Sky’s female wellbeing program.
Being a woman today often means having to reconcile many roles: professional, mother, daughter, caregiver. It means facing social pressures, stereotypes, disparities, and, unfortunately, in some cases, situations of fragility or violence. For this reason, Sky has chosen to build an ecosystem of services that not only offer support but aim to restore freedom of choice and power over personal decisions. One of the main services offered is psychological support, designed to build personalized paths with qualified psychologists and psychotherapists. A concrete help to face moments of stress, anxiety, relational difficulties, but also the most delicate and painful sphere, up to gender-based violence, so that no woman ever feels alone.
In addition to emotional independence, there is also economic independence, a fundamental aspect of well-being and a symbol of personal freedom. For this reason, Sky invests in financial wellbeing, with a program that helps colleagues develop skills in managing their financial resources. An important step, because economic violence is a form of abuse too often invisible. Finally, to complete the path of awareness and independence, Sky Italia promotes personal safety through the S.A.F.E. (Security Actions For Everyone Empowerment) course: a self-protection course designed to provide practical tools to anyone who may find themselves in risky situations, inside or outside the workplace.
Originally created as a program for a female audience, S.A.F.E. has generated strong interest and approval, so much so that it was extended to the entire company population. Today it is active in the Milan, Rome, and Cagliari offices, and is aimed at anyone who, for reasons beyond their control, considers it useful to acquire prevention and response skills in potentially critical contexts. The course aims to develop a culture of prevention, where physical intervention represents only the last resort, to be used when preventive strategies are not sufficient.
These are small and large steps toward a more equitable, meritocratic, and gender-equal society.
