Maranello, the soul of Ferrari
But what does it mean for a company to belong to a place? For Ferrari, the answer has a very specific name: co-prosperity. An idea rooted in the belief that a company’s long-term success is inextricably linked to the well-being of the community around it. Economic growth, education, healthcare, innovation and social progress are not parallel ambitions, but mutually reinforcing elements. When a community prospers, businesses grow alongside it. And when businesses make tangible investments in people, the benefits extend far beyond the boundaries of the company itself.
This philosophy is deeply rooted in the brand’s history. Ferrari has never simply been based in Maranello; it has grown alongside it. Even before founding the company that would go on to become a global icon, Enzo Ferrari opened a technical institute in Maranello, recognising the importance of education and training. More than 80 years later, that belief remains unchanged.
The new M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari, an educational hub set to open in 2029, marks the latest chapter in this story. Developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Agnelli and local institutions, it has been conceived as a continuous learning ecosystem focused on technology and the automotive industry. With ambitions that extend well beyond the local area, M-TECH will attract top talent from across Italy and abroad.
The same principle applies to healthcare. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ferrari worked with medical professionals and institutions to develop workplace safety protocols that went on to become international benchmarks. That experience helped further strengthen the Prancing Horse’s commitment to health and well-being.
The recent opening of the Med-Ex Diagnostic Centre in Maranello is a tangible example. Developed with Med-Ex, Ferrari’s medical partner, in collaboration with local and regional healthcare authorities, the centre is equipped with advanced diagnostic technologies, including Philips equipment, with one clear objective: to make high-quality preventive healthcare more accessible, benefiting both Ferrari employees and the local community.
The centre will provide free mammography screenings to women living in the municipalities of Maranello, Formigine and Fiorano. The share of profits that would otherwise go to Ferrari will be reinvested in education, professional development and scholarships for young professionals, creating a virtuous cycle for the healthcare of tomorrow. M-TECH and Med-Ex embody Ferrari’s philosophy that corporate prosperity is inseparable from the prosperity of the community.
As Michele Antoniazzi, Chief Human Resources Officer at Ferrari, explains: “A sense of belonging creates responsibility. When you feel an integral part of a community, investing in its future becomes a natural choice. At Ferrari, we believe that the strength of our company depends on the strength of the people and communities that grow alongside us. This is what we call co-prosperity.”
And it is this awareness that also shapes Ferrari’s broader sustainability strategy. Beyond environmental performance, sustainability must be measured through the quality of the relationships that organisations build with their employees and with future generations.
Antoniazzi puts it clearly: “We are proud to create extraordinary cars. At the same time, we are deeply aware that the excellence of our products is built on excellence in education and the creation of opportunities. At the heart of Ferrari’s success is the growth of our people. Co-prosperity means recognising that our future will always be linked to the future of Maranello.”
In a world where companies are increasingly being asked to demonstrate genuine social impact, some initiatives risk becoming symbolic shortcuts to visibility. Co-prosperity offers a different perspective, encouraging companies to ask how they can build a future together with the communities in which they operate. When a company and its community grow together, success is no longer measured by the results achieved by either party alone, but by shared progress. And that is something everyone can take great pride in.
