Caring beyond the skin: prevention, inclusion, and awareness

Health is one of the most concrete ways in which we take care of ourselves. Today more than ever, it is a concept that goes beyond the body and is also linked to fair access to information and care. Talking about health inevitably also means talking about inclusion. In this context, prevention plays a fundamental role, yet it often takes a back seat compared to urgency and emergencies. It is precisely here that the need arises to pause for a moment and bring attention back to what can truly make a difference over time: awareness.

From this vision comes the collaboration between NIVEA SUN and the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research, with the aim of reminding us how sunscreen is a simple yet essential act of daily prevention. NIVEA SUN has chosen to support AIRC with a donation to co-fund one year of an Investigator Grant research project on skin cancers, and to support awareness initiatives on the importance of prevention.

Today more than ever, talking about sun protection means talking about knowledge. It means helping people navigate often fragmented information and recognize the value of small actions repeated over time. Because it is in everyday life that a true culture of prevention is built. The collaboration with AIRC—engaged for over sixty years in cancer research and scientific communication—was created to make information more accessible, clearer, and closer to people. Bringing science closer to people, without overcomplicating it, but giving it the right space and value.

Within this commitment, NIVEA SUN chooses to go beyond the product and become an active part of this narrative, encouraging greater awareness, a better understanding of one’s skin, and daily attentive care. Between June and July 2026, the NIVEA SUN × AIRC tour will take place, with several stops across Italy, in seaside locations and urban settings. These will be opportunities to meet—simple yet meaningful moments—to pause, get informed, and experience firsthand what prevention truly means.

The project also includes the installation of SUNDO dispensers in various locations—from beaches to cities—which will provide NIVEA SUN Protect & Hydrate SPF50+ free of charge, making it even easier to take care of one’s skin precisely at the times when it is most exposed. Being in the sun is a pleasure, a natural gesture that accompanies many moments of our lives. For this very reason, learning to do so consciously is essential.

Protecting oneself does not mean giving something up, but choosing to take care of oneself. In line with this approach, Beiersdorf’s corporate purpose, “Care Beyond Skin,” invites us to go beyond the surface: reminding us that care is not only made of visible actions, but also of attention, awareness, and responsibility toward ourselves. Promoting a culture of prevention ultimately means this: making each person freer to choose their own well-being every day.
