Bring your whole self to work

Pride is a profound construct: it is the ultimate indicator of the level of belonging and psychological safety within an organisation. Authentic pride translates into a systemic awareness that one’s individual contribution holds intrinsic value, deeply interconnected with a shared organisational purpose.

When an organisation nurtures this dynamic, pride becomes the glue that helps mitigate turnover, strengthens team resilience and transforms the workforce into a community of ambassadors. It is the result of a cultural architecture that has been intentionally designed and validated through experience over time.

The point of greatest convergence between pride and the DEI strategy is embodied by Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). Within these spaces, pride moves beyond the purely professional dimension to embrace identity: it becomes the pride of being able to bring one’s whole, authentic self into the workplace — “bring your whole self to work”.

At this point, I would like to give the floor to our ERGs, whom I asked what being part of a community means to them.

“Being part of the Dis-Ability community means contributing to a change in perspective in the workplace: not integrating someone into an already defined system, but making that system more open, flexible and capable of accommodating different needs. The journey we have taken together has made us more aware that, often, it is not people who create a barrier, but the environment itself: an inaccessible tool, insensitive language, a process that does not take everyone’s needs into account. That is why we work every day to promote physical, digital, relational and cultural accessibility. Our pride comes from knowing that every conversation, every idea and every small change can help build a workplace where everyone can feel welcomed, respected and free to express their value.”

“I am proud to be part of Findomestic & Friends LGBT+ because, above all, this community represents a network of people. A place where you know you can rely on those who understand what it means to bring your whole self into the workplace, with your own experiences, questions and vulnerabilities. For me, it is a compass, a point of reference and a space of trust. This pride grows through dialogue with other communities and with the international Pride Network, which reminds us how important it is to turn visibility and allyship into concrete action, because the true value of a community lies in its ability to make every person feel welcomed, respected and free to be themselves.”

“Within the Findomestic Donna community, the mentoring programme represents a space for shared growth, where empowerment takes shape in everyday practice. Over the years, we have paired young mentees with senior colleagues, creating development paths with clear objectives and opportunities for ongoing dialogue. The initiative continues to evolve through Becoming Mentor, now in its third edition, which supports former mentees through a training programme enabling them to mentor other colleagues in turn. It is precisely through this passing of the torch that the most authentic value of our community emerges: growth is not individual, but nurtured through relationships and sharing, giving rise to a strong and continuous support network. It is a model that values people, strengthens their sense of belonging and contributes to professional development as a tangible driver of the organisation’s future.”

“The Across Ages project, launched in March 2022, promotes intergenerational dialogue with the aim of building bridges across generations, roles and business functions, transforming diversity into an active and creative resource. The journey we have undertaken has encouraged dialogue among four different generations, broadening perspectives and strengthening a culture of inclusion and collaboration. How many things do we take for granted until we pause to look at them with fresh eyes! Through dialogue and exchange, our community has created the Intergenerational Relationships Charter — something we are very proud of — which sets out the guiding principles behind what generational integration means to us.”

Ultimately, ERGs represent the beating heart of this dynamic: when a company provides the resources and strategic space for pride to flourish from within, it ceases to be merely a place of economic transaction and becomes a platform for empowerment, equity and collective growth.
